Chad Cannon is a composer interested in the intersection of cultures, history, and human stories. Recent film scores include the Academy Award-winning documentary AMERICAN FACTORY (Netflix), GHOST OF TSUSHIMA: DIRECTOR’S CUT (IKI ISLAND) (Sony PlayStation/Suckerpunch, co-scored with Bill Hemstapat), and HARBOR FROM THE HOLOCAUST (PBS), the latter with performances by special guest artist Yo-Yo Ma.

Fluent in Japanese, Chad maintains a close working relationship with Joe Hisaishi, famous for his collaborations with legendary animation director Hayao Miyazaki. Chad is currently scoring the Chinese 3D animated feature CHIBI MARUKO-CHAN: THE FANTASTIC NOTEBOOK, with a main theme written by Hisaishi. Chad also created the orchestrations for JOE HISAISHI SYMPHONIC CONCERT: MUSIC FROM THE STUDIO GHIBLI FILMS OF HAYAO MIYAZAKI, which premiered in Paris, France in 2017 and continues to be performed around the world.

Additionally, Chad speaks basic Mandarin, and has scored many Chinese-language videogames, films, and documentaries. These include 风起三国, a game set in the Three Kingdoms Period, with a main theme by Shigeru Umebayashi; the nature documentary series 青海: 我们的国家公园 (QINGHAI: OUR NATIONAL PARK), and 旷野歌声 (SINGING IN THE WILDERNESS), a documentary directed by Dongnan Chen that explores minority ethnic experiences in mainland China through the lens of a Miao Christian choir that became a national sensation.
