““American Factory” is political without being self-servingly didactic or strident, connecting the sociopolitical dots intelligently, sometimes with the help of a stirring score from Chad Cannon that evokes Aaron Copland. ”
“Cannon gives [the workers] music they deserve...with a parodic but good-natured edge.”
“Filmed with extraordinary attention to environmental detail and revealing human interactions, “American Factory” is that rare documentary that’s [...] compelling in its [...] profound sensory pleasure, with its themes of transparency and reflection aptly captured by the sparkling sheets of glass and spotless machinery [...], a visual backdrop echoed in the woodwinds that dominate Chad Cannon’s graceful musical score.”
“Manufacturing lines, technological equipment and warehouses become pieces of art set to a score crafted by Chad Cannon.”

“What a joy it has been to work with Director Xiao Li on his gorgeous and heartfelt documentary series, “Qinghai: Our National Park”! Located high on the Tibetan plateau, Qinghai is one of the world’s greatest natural sanctuaries. The national park was established just last year in 2020, and is China’s first in its new national park system (previously this area was called the Sanjiangyuan National Nature Reserve). The region contains the headwaters of China’s three great rivers: the Yangtze, the Yellow, and the Mekong. This series changed my understanding of how China is trying to reverse the negative impacts decades of industrialization has had on its environment. It gave me hope that China and other countries will work harder to preserve and restore ever-diminishing wild habitats.”

“A provocative amalgamation of sound, sight, and syntax, Cannon’s “The Dreams of a Sleeping World” allows audiences multiple routes through which to navigate the challenges of our modern world. [...] His mission to promote cultural diplomacy through contemporary concert music is thoroughly accomplished through this filmic presentation of image, sound, and text.”
“Starting out quietly before launching into aggressive chorus and orchestration, “Dreams” certainly has a cinematic power to it. [...] There’s an overall, soothing quality [...] from a composer with tangible empathy for a far bigger picture”
“Monumental! From the brilliant, unique conception to the magnificent realization, ‘The Dreams of a Sleeping World’ was always engaging and absorbing. [...] A stupendous success.”
“A stunning piece.”

“...haunting, mystical [...], with echoes of Philip Glass and Aaron Copland and sounds from a Buddhist temple”
“The inherent spirituality of (Cannon’s) music, linked to his feeling for Japan, made him the perfect composer for our film. Film music works best when it doesn’t try to illustrate, but instead enhances a scene like incense. His score illuminates the protagonists’ obsessions and pathos without preaching.”
“...moving and beautiful, elegantly written, artfully orchestrated. [...] Chad Cannon is an important and personal new voice in the film music community.”

“Harbor From The Holocaust was shaping up to be a compelling story with solid narratives. When Chad’s score was added, it amplified the emotional connection with deep colors, rich texture and truly unexpected meaning. Chad brought incredible sensitivity and authenticity to this important story”

“Chad Cannon’s CyberWork and the American Dream is a rare entry in the increasingly dwindling use of American minimalism in film music. Cannon uses recurring themes constructed with a level variance in instrumentation and tone not commonly seen in the genre, staging the issue of technology’s ever-increasing encroachment into daily life.”

“‘Transcendent’, speaks volumes for the high level of creativity flourishing in the 21st century. [...] [Cannon’s] songs are concise and trenchant, with glistening sonorities complementing fervent vocal lines.”
“There is music so new, so original, so contemplative, and so deeply felt that it makes you want to listen, and then demands that you listen again. It’s music whose layers peel back over time, as it draws you deeper into its mysteries. ”
“Chad Cannon’s ‘Wild Grass on the Riverbank’ takes its text from Hiromi Ito’s book-length poem of the same name and consists of six movements that create a dramatic, musical film that makes good on the composer’s goal to capture “the essence of Ms Ito’s experiences as a young Japanese immigrant in the United States””
